James M. Meyer
James M. Meyer concentrates his practice on the representation of U.S. and Latin American-based multinational corporations, financial institutions, manufacturers, franchisors, family offices and private high net worth clients in general corporate matters, commercial transactions, cross-border leasing, financing, sales and acquisitions of capital equipment, including aircraft and yachts. His experience in such matters also extends throughout the Caribbean.
Mr. Meyer has been named to the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers by the WHO’S WHO LEGAL organization as well as Florida’s Who’s Who Legal. He is also listed in The Legal Media Group’s Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers, named by Latin Lawyer as one of the “leading Miami-based Latin America focused practitioners,” and repeatedly named by Florida Trend Magazine as one of the state’s Legal Elite®. Law & Politics Magazine has also recognized him as a Florida Super Lawyer® and Miami Today nominated him as one of the best legal leaders in Miami. He has also been named as one of Florida’s “Top Lawyers” by South Florida Legal Guide®. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law, teaching International Secured Finance, and is a frequent lecturer and commentator on international commercial matters. Mr. Meyer has been named Vice Chairman of the L2B Aviation Group, which is the world’s largest international network of aviation law firms which specialize in providing legal advice to the aviation industry. He serves as a member of the Planning Group of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Tax Committee. He is an active member of the National Aircraft Finance Association (NAFA) and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association (FYBA), as well as a member of the Air and Space Forum, Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law, International Law and Franchising Section of the American Bar Association (ABA). Mr. Meyer is also a member of the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section and serves on the Executive Council of the International Law Section of the Florida Bar. He is a member of the Steering Committee for International Law Studies at Florida International University College of Law. He is a director of Ayudame A Vivir Foundation Inc. (a charitable organization supporting pediatric cancer facilities), as well as a director of The X Family Foundation (a foundation that assists families affected by Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic disorder that often leads to autism). He also serves on the Host Committee for Dwyane Wade’s charitable organization Wade’s World Foundation, and its Night at the RunWade. He is a member of the Council of the Americas, Inter-American Dialogue and the Caribbean Central American Action organization.
Mr. Meyer received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Arizona State University, Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as Articles and Comments Editor of the Law Review.
