David Mayer
David Mayer is a partner in the Aviation Practice Team at Shackelford, McKinley & Norton, LLP. He supports clients in all aspects of their aviation experience involving new or used business aircraft and related matters. From simple to complex, David's work is founded on his core values of integrity, hard work, fairness, and quality. David’s clients consist primarily of Part 91 (private) and Part 135 (commercial) aircraft operators, high and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, private companies, public corporations, private equity firms, and flight departments. As a priority, David navigates clients through state and federal tax laws, federal aviation regulations, and more legal and business intricacies presented by business aviation matters. Sensitive to a broad array of risk management issues, he offers ways to mitigate personal liability risk, conduct due diligence, and enhance owner and operator privacy. David also advises clients on creating and administering aircraft use policies and practices. David provides comprehensive guidance to first-time buyers and lessees from the inception of identifying the right aircraft through aircraft management and beyond while continuing similar work for repeat owners, buyers, lessees, sellers, lessors, and aircraft operators. Aircraft lending and leasing transactions comprise a substantial part of David’s practice. Although he mostly represents borrowers and lessees in aircraft financing transactions, David understands both sides of these transactions having devoted more than three decades of his career to representing lessors, lenders, equity interests, and other financiers in his corporate and law firm positions. In all these matters, David provides comprehensive counseling; structures ownership, operation, and management arrangements; negotiates and drafts documents; coordinates transaction teams globally; and participates in dispute resolution matters. He recognizes that speed is frequently needed to close transactions and is highly motivated to meet client deadlines. David focuses on knowing, serving, and working with others in the business aviation industry. He greatly values and enjoys fostering personal relationships with industry experts such as aircraft brokers; aviation insurance specialists, and aircraft lessors and lenders; aircraft managers (Part 91); technical consultants; appraisers, charter operators (Part 135); fractional share providers; aviation vendors, FBOs, MROs and others. David is a seasoned speaker and writer. He writes regularly for Aviation International News (AIN) as AIN’s legal representative for the business aviation industry amid a handful of experts (bloggers) writing on other industry disciplines. In that role, David has written bi-monthly starting 2018-September 2023, available at https://www.ainonline.com/author/david-g-mayer. He has also been a guest on podcasts and webinars to discuss current industry topics. A sampling of podcasts and blogs follows:
